PearlAbyss stands as a prominent game developer in Korea. Since its launch in 2014, “Black Desert Online” has been the selected as the #1 popular game by MMORPG Dotcom. The company introduced “Black Desert Mobile” recently, and Cloocus has been actively involved in delivering services to PearlAbyss.
Background
In prior to launching the mobile version of “Black Desert,” PearlAbyss needed cloud services that could enable quick preparation for the launching. To establish most agile and the best user environment, the client decided to utilize Azure.
In competition against AWS for MSSQL Benchmarking Test (BMT), Azure SQL Database which Cloocus proposed was selected.
Azure’s outstanding performance proved its strength as the best solution for large-scale user mobile gaming environments.

“Black Desert Mobile” is the first mobile game by PearlAbyss, and it has faced challenges related to its distinct user environment compared to PC gaming, such as maintenance and numerous reconnect sessions from repeated service logins and exits. To implement a stable environment, Cloocus collaborated with the client to address those issues and successfully established a reliable framework.
The competition test between Azure and AWS provided an excellent opportunity to validate transactional performance of Azure SQL Database (PaaS Service). Through these processes, Cloocus was able to gain expertise and a driving force to establish fundamentals of ongoing growth.
